Arougas

Arougas is the First Mate of the Earthbound Rogues. Born in Haephus and abandoned at a young age, he grew up on the streets and learned his knowledge of survival there. He’s a former infantryman in the Haephus National Army and a naval officer in the Oleon Army, until eventually joining the Earthbound Rogues, being put in charge of training the crew and commanding battles.

Arougas’ most prominent trait is that he’s a survivor. He’s incredibly distrusting of his squad throughout his time in the Oleon and Haephus army, building his own strength and following his own orders to survive. He initially begins this same journey in Earthbound Rogues, not trusting his crew to survive and using it only as a vehicle for him to carry on living, until he learns of Oleon’s betrayal.

This forced him to realign on his priorities, learning that he could not go back to the army. As such, following Terra’s insescent leadership, Arougas grew to become more responsible and trusting, passing on his survival knowledge and growing to accept the Earthbound Rogues crew members as extensions of himself.

He’s also always despised the Infected. He grew pride in his own strength, considering the circumstances he managed to survive in or push through, and believes the Infected to have power they have not earned. He believes instinctively that the Infected lack discipline and should they be in compromising positions that their overdependence on their abilities affect them. It is also why he initially underestimates Terra and always tends to overreact with Bura, which is due to the fact that he believes Bura to be immortal and reckless as a result. He does have a lot of respect for Baros, who’s natural strength rivals his and demonstrates what he believes the Infected should be.

Once he becomes an Infected himself, he feels a tremendous amount of shame. He believes he’s been cursed with immortality after barely surviving the onset, until Terra makes him bleed in the shoulder, demonstrating that he needs control over his abilities. He never truly feels humbled, but accepts that there’s a bit more to an Infected than he once thought.

Eventually he discovers that he too is weak to Pacifite, despite his body corroding everything. The corrosion is not fast enough to protect him from Pacifite’s effect, unlike Bura, since his body does contain some density.

Plasma Body

Arougas was Infected in the final parts of his journey, right before the Meeting of the Council. He was saved by Terra and Bura coaching him to gain control as he melted through the Cambria floorboards. He was infected by a Sea Raven.

This ability grants him the power to turn his body into plasma, which slows down projectiles and melts objects. He uses it primarily defensively due to his pride in his strength, and only in dire situations. He has committed murder using this ability, using it purely out of spite.
