Feathered Giant

“They are loyal for life. For our sake, they best stay loyal to each other.”

Feathered Giant is the name given to a gigantic amphibian that tends to live in the depths of the oceans. They are hunted by the Royal Navy to reduce the threats they face in the oceans. Their feathers are seen on Kami’s coat as a display of power.

Origins & Habitat

Pre-discovery

Feathered Giants were storied creatures that lives around the world and occasionally swallowed up ships as they rose into the sky. Rarely has a survivor shared notes of the creature, as the currents and waves they create are so enormous and forceful that most ships get destroyed along the way.

They generally reside deep in the ocean and tend to swim in small and widely spread packs. They swim so deeply that they are not easily spotted. They commonly convalesce north of the Craegarus Currents, where they can safely mate, heal and spend time. It’s long been rumored that they give birth on land and that they fly high in the sky, but these rumors have never been unfounded.

Kami’s Mission

While part of the Royal Navi, Kami and a small unit was tasked by The Tyrant to find and massacre these creatures, as there have been incidents that are linked to these creatures that have impacted their naval force. His unit included himself and Lupin, who was his direct subordinate at the time.

Kami eventually returned with a coat covered in feathers as a trophy. He had, in fact, relocated the creatures to the deep mountain ranges of Craegarus, where they currently make their home.

Defense of the Spirit Meridian

During the battle of the Rogue Council and the Royal Navy, a Feathered Giant rose out of the aquatic battlefield. It carried Kami away from the battlefield and was presumed to have been under the control of the Navy.

While the creature did follow the command of the Tyrant, who unknowing to the Rogues was present in that battle, eventually the feather that was used to create these orders was stolen by Kami and this same creature saved him and flew to Craegarus.

When Terra met Kami in the Craegarus cliffs, Kami showed him their habitat, a gigantic oasis in the middle of the harsh mountain range, where a large quantity of these Giants were grouping.

Behavior & Threat

Despite being gigantic creatures often paired with death, they pay very little to their immediate surroundings. Their skin is also very tough, and it takes a very long and sharp blade to do noticeable damage to them.

There are not many Feathered Giants. This is because they generally have one or two offspring, and they mate for life. Their life spans are relatively long, and they mate far later in their lives.

Generally they feed underwater, where they consume plankton in the deepest depths of the ocean. Aquatic Sealife often swim under their wings to protect themselves from other sea creatures that prey on them.

The Feather

Each creature has a handful of small but fully grown feathers on their body. These are usually located around the shoulder. Females and males spar each other to reach these feathers, and when they acquire one of them they stab themselves deep in their chests with it. From then, they are entirely loyal to each other and only each other. Any other Giant that tries to mate will have to fight both of them, although usually they stop trying when another Giant gets involved. This is their mating behavior to decide their life partner.

Kami was tasked with hunting these creatures down. But upon learning more about the peaceful nature of the creatures and this ritual, he instead, along with his small crew, would mount these creatures to take one of their small feathers. These creatures would then be loyal to him as well. As a result, he was able to relocate them to where the Navy would struggle to find them, and thus protect them from the Tyrant’s wrath whilst still doing what he was told.

Despite this, eventually the Tyrant took one of the feathers Kami left behind when Kami and Lupin left. This helped the Navy tame one of the creatures, though even still they could not use the Giant aggressively in their conquests, only making it an ally on water.
